2) This also meant that I had to say goodbye to my best friend again. Leaving Sandy has been the absolute hardest part to my job. Although it's really only happened twice before, one time I was back within a week. I was telling one of my coworkers this week that this is the hardest it's been on me (doing the distance). I know that in the past we've gone longer not seeing each other, but the more time we spend together, we grow closer. Duh. It's natural, especially when you are engaged to that person. It's becoming easier this week, but last week was not a fun on for either of us. I give her a ton of credit, because she has to carry on with me coming and going. I don't know why she puts up with me sometimes.
3) On a more positive note, we did get to go to Boston the weekend before I left. Stayed in a pretty cool hotel called ALoft. Saw a museum, ate lobster rolls, caught up with my cousin, and ate soup at the New England Soup Factory. Which is the name of the soup cookbook I own and enjoy making soups out of. I had a great split pea and spinach.
4) I also got to see a Phish concert in Utica on my way out to MKE. Another rager in Upstate. First off, the venue was tiny, maybe 6K people. Second off, they absolutely rocked. My 21st show, and like I posted on FB, looks like I'm legal.
5) Following right after seeing Phish, I drove from Utica to MKE in one day. I then flew out to Denver/Boulder and visited my brother. He's been out there for over a year, and I haven't visited him yet. With him leaving the area and heading back East in November, I knew my time was limited, and I was lucky to have a free weekend to get out there.
Boulder is a cool city, different from what I expected. For some reason, I thought it would be more like Burlington, VT. It was and it wasn't. Everything feels very new and fresh. Also, Burlington is right on a body of water, whereas Boulder is right on the mountains. Both have pedestrian malls, and a liberalish/creative vibe.
We did a hike and could overlook the city and could see Denver in the distance. It was the furthest West I've ever been. One of these days I'm going to make it to the Pacific.
