1) I'm on Long Island, and I seem to be settling in nicely. It was stressful getting down here as I tried to fit everything into my car, on top of Tim's stuff. But it fit, and we made it down here in one piece. Things are good here at my grandma's so far.
2) Last night Tim and I had our last slumber of the summer. For those of you reading who don't know what it means to "slumber", it is simply when people in North Troost talk before sleep. Yet there have been some great conversations that have come out of slumber parties. Driving Tim to JFK today, I couldn't help but to really think that summer is over now. Even though I may go to the beach tomorrow, the summer is truly wrapping up.
3) Another camp memory from this summer was a canoe trip I took during our Adirondack Quest Week. I was leading a group of 10 boys, 2 volunteers on a trip from Elm Lake to Speculator. This trip had never been done before, and we didn't have a very good map. We were put in at the wrong place on a river that was supposed to take us to Speculator. After paddling for 7 hrs, we weren't in Speculator.
During the entire trip, I had only a slight idea on where we were going. We also had to pull our canoes over fallen logs and beaver dams every couple hundred feet. Then we had to wait for 2 additional hours to get picked up. But I must say, that it was one of the best experiences that I have ever had. There was great teamwork from everyone and no complaints. When we finally got back to camp I've never been prouder of a group of campers and all they accomplished.
4) This summer I ate about 65 bananas. I kept a tally in the kitchen.
5) My cousins had their first day of school today. My one cousin going into high school seemed nervous. I remember my first days of school very well. I don't know why, but it is something that sticks out in my mind.
