I'll meet you by the watermelon

1) When I first started writing this blog, about two and a half years ago, I had essentially just finished a big part of my life. Swimming. I had participated in it for 14 years. I needed a break from not just swimming, but I think competing in general. So I took some time off. But on this blog, I've mentioned a number of times how I felt as though I needed to get back into training and competing again.

Yesterday, I ran my first road race in over four years, and I think most importantly competed for the first time in two plus years. It felt great. I ran the Stockadeathon in Schenectady. I was happy and slightly surprised with my time. But the time didn't matter as much to me as just getting out there and pushing myself. The course was flat with a few hills. The race was well organized with a great assortment of refreshments following.

2) In high school, after our end of the year sectional meet in Amsterdam, my mom would always take us to McDonald's for dinner. In college, after SUNYACs, we would always have a big party where we would drink for the first time in six weeks. Last night, I drank beer and ate McDonald's.

3) Last week our heat broke. It wouldn't turn on, and was hovering in the low 60s. I spent some cold nights in 5 Ward, and this definitely compared. However when our heat was turned on or "jumpstarted" as our landlord called it, it didn't really get warm. It got HOT. When I got home from my night class at 9pm, it was 77. By the morning it was 85. Luckily it was fixed by Friday, but if it wasn't, we were going to pull down our air-conditioning.

4) A few weeks ago, Sandy and I saw the Disco Biscuits. Sandy wasn't too excited about it, but she put on a good face and come to the concert with me. I had a great time. I hadn't been to a concert in a while, and this was didn't disappoint. They played some songs I hadn't heard, and also some of my favorites.
